Hike to Hoverla

Main facts about the ascent:
- The Hike to Hoverla takes one day.
- You’ll have to walk around 8-9 km up the mountain slope.
- The ascent is of medium difficulty in spring to autumn, high in winter.
- The hike starts and ends in Ivano-Frankivsk or Lviv.

Ascent of Hoverla – a Tour to the Queen of the Carpathians

Hoverla is not just the highest peak in Ukraine; it is also a roof of the Carpathians. Why so? Because there are not many peaks that give you an opportunity to see the panorama of almost all of the Carpathian Mountains: the steep Marmarosy, breath-taking wilderness of the Gorgany to the North, eastern ranges of Pokuttia, tamed by hutzuls, the Western Blyznytsi and Petros, the curved spine of Chornohora to the South, resembling a back of some mysterious wild beast…
In clear weather, not only the Romanian Carpathians are visible – you can also see the City of Ivano-Frankivsk, and even the pipes of the Burshtyn Power Station, though it is around 90-120 km away. For those who love active, even extreme tourism, the ascent of Hoverla is the dream worth fulfilling.
The height of Hoverla is considerable, but the ascent isn’t that difficult during the warm season. In winter though, it gets much harder to reach to the top. Unreliable weather can make you turn back after climbing half of the way. In any circumstances, the ascent of Hoverla demands skills, tenacity and special equipment, as any other Carpathian Hike.
Whatever the caprices of the weather, the Ascent of Hoverla fulfils an ambitious goal – to conquer the highest peak in Ukraine. And you will get a reward – magnificent panoramic views, that are totally worth the whole effort.+

The route of the hike

The journey to the Queen of the Carpathians starts from Ivano-Frankivsk or Lviv. You will travel by bus to the Zarosliak sports facility. During the way you will notice, how plains transform into hills and then into mountain slopes, and broad and slow rives turn into rapid mountain streams.
The ascent starts from Zarosliak - higher to the sky, further into the mountains, with slopes and gorges, forests and alpine meadows around, and crystal-clear mountain air that will make you feel dizzy. Surrounding beauty makes you forget the exhaustion from the ascent, leaving you with the only wish – to climb to the top, to see the view of the mountains stretching to the horizon.
