Lviv bus tour

If you want to see most interesting places in shortest time – go on a general city tour on the bus.

The route encompasses central parts of the city and will open to you most distinctive monuments of Lviv from the Middle Ages till today. The tour includes visiting churches, palaces, fortifications and many other interesting objects. This is the way to get acquainted with Lviv in most broad sense – see many different places, hear about many different historical events, feel many different moods that form the mosaic of modern city’s life.

The tour includes three brief stops, during which the guide will tell you more detail about the monuments. These are St. George’s Cathedral, High Castle Park and Lychakiv Cemetery.

Architectural ensemble of St. George’s Cathedral is the jewel of Lviv, no doubt. It has an impressive religious, cultural and social importance. Two miraculous icons – from Terebovlia and from Kyiv – are kept there along with relics of the saints and a copy of Turin Shroud. The remains of Prince Yaroslav Osmomysl, prominent Galician ruler, considered lost, were found here. The cathedral is the spiritual centre of Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church. In old times many works of art were kept in the cathedral thanks especially to Metropolitan Andrey Sheptytsky. But most of them now are part of different museum collections; not all of them are still in Lviv or even in Ukraine at all.

Stopping at High Castle Park, you’ll have an opportunity to see the remnants of fortifications and other memorial places of the park that will open you some facts from the city’s history. There’s also a beautiful view from the top of the hill that you’ll never forget.

Visit to Lychakiv Cemetery includes viewing of most interesting exponents of tomb sculpture and listening to stories of mysterious events, connected with this place. Such people as Markiyan Shashkevych, Ivan Franko, Solomia Krushelnytska, Iryna Vilde, Volodymyr Ivasiuk, Maria Konopnicka, Zygmunt Gorgolewski, Seweryn Goszczyński, Stefan Banach and many others found their place of eternal rest here. You’ll like to hear the stories about the walking sculpture, the sleeping beauty, the sorrowful mother and many others.
