Lviv in One Day

Lviv is a city with rich culture and history. It’s impossible to see all the interesting sites of Lviv in short term. But if you don’t have much time and want to see as much as possible, here are two tour routes for you.

The first route includes a three-hour walking tour and a three-hour bus tour. During this tour you will see the ensemble of the city centre, included into UNESCO’s List of World Heritage Sites. After the walk you will have an opportunity to dine in one of those special Lviv cafes. Our guide will advise you on the most interesting of them.

After dinner you will go on a bus tourwith three short stops. It encompasses main monuments outside the centre, areas built mostly during the Austrian times and the territory of the prince’s city – place where Lviv was founded. Here we will ascend to the High Castle Hillto see the panoramic view of the city. And we will also see some of the most ancient monuments of Lviv.

The second stop will be at the Lychakiv Cemetery. It dates back to the Austrian times. Here a lot of prominent citizens of Lviv of different nationalities are buried. Listening to their stories you will also know more about the city’s history. The last stop is at St. George’s Cathedral, the jewel of Lviv baroque dating back to the end of the Polish reign. This is one of the most beautiful buildings in Lviv. Here you will also hear the history of the Greek-Catholic Church and find out about the fate of Metropolitan AndreySheptytsky, a prominent religious and national leader. The bus tour is only a short glimpse of the city. Every monument, you will see from the bus window, deserves much more attention. So we hope that this tour will be just a beginning of your acquaintance with Lviv!

And if you like walking more, the second route is for you. It is a seven-hour tour with breaks for coffee and for dinner. During this tour you will miss some places included into the bus tour, but will have a chance to get acquainted with some other monuments in much more detail. Our journey will begin at StaryRynok Square, at the heart of the city in times of its foundation in the 13th century. From here we will ascend to the High Castle Hill to see Lviv from the bird’s eye view. And then we will go to the mediaeval centre and have a coffee in one of the coffee houses to your liking.

After a coffee-break we will have a tour of the city centreand then have a dinner. After dinner we will visit the Lychakiv Cemetery. During this tour you’ll have a chance to see it in more detail than during a bus tour. In the end we offer you to visit the ShevchenkivskyHai Skansenwith our tour guide. Here traditional wooden houses from all of the Western Ukraine are exhibited. Here you will feel the touch of the past and know more about our ancestors.

This route is just a short first meeting with the city as well. So we hope that this walk will make you interested in the history of Lviveven more.
